A result of its privileged geographical situation, the region of Greater Portneuf offers diversified scenery that you can explore with the four (4) tours proposed by the Portneuf Regional Development Society (Le Chemin du Roy, Une aventure dans l'ouest, En route vers l'arrière pays and À la découverte de richesses insoupçonnées). Covering approximetaly 5,000 square kilometers, the territory extends from the valley of the Saint-Lawrence to the Laurentian plateau. The Greater Portneuf is first a foremost place which blends the respect of traditions, hospitality, and enchanting sites in villages like Saint-Ubalde.
Activities for All Tastes and All Seasons
In summertime, you can go canoeing, rafting and sailboating on one of the 1000 lakes and rivers, make a floatplane guided tour, or fish wall-eyed pike (doré), fresh-water salmon (ouananiches), grey, red or speckled trout and even salmon. In the fall, hunting (black bear, moose, hare, partridge, duck and sarcelle) is sure to be good in the mountainous territories of the ZECs (Controled Exploitation Zones) of the White river, Batiscan-Neilson and the Portneuf wildlife reserves. When the snow covers the ground, the 500 kilometers of cross-country skiing invite you to discover the splendor of the snowed-in sceneries. You can also follow the 1000 kilometers of snowmobile trails, ski, snowshoe, slide or ski sail. As spring warms the air, its time for the sugar shacks to satisfy your tastes and entertain you.

Travelling along the roads of Greater Portneuf, take time to discover our history and a way of life molded by the needs of our ancestors.
On the Laurentian low lands, the Chemin du Roy traced in the XVIIIth century, proudly shows from Grondines to Neuville the noble stone or wood houses rich with all the centuries that they lived through. This scenic road recalls the seigniorial Greater Portneuf with its farm land in narrow strips, its restored village mills and churches built in the center of the villages.The Laurentian hinterland of Greater Portneuf reveals its own witnesses to the presence of an industrial heritage: coal ovens, sawmills and card mills.
