Three Legged Table Top is
curly yellow birch, belt is tiger maple, legs are cherry with purple
heart appliqué and ebony leg ends. Top is a one piece curly
yellow birch crust, retaining the shape of the tree and a continuous wood grain on
the entire surface. For pieces of furniture of that type, I use
mainly curly wood to give more emphasis. Those are wood pieces
that are in limited quantities and none have the same shape so the
pieces of furniture are impossible to reproduce. Those pieces of
wood are not all curly the same way and some aren't at all. You
only find a good piece of curly wood occasionally on some blocks of
wood. Those pieces are not sold by wood suppliers, you have to get them
yourself. |

Kitchen Table Top is made
of two planks of curly yellow birch cut one after the other and numbered
so they open like a book. It's what we call in the trade
"book match". Base is cherry and purple heart.

Armchair Cherry,
curly yellow birch and ebony are the types of wood used in this
piece. Uprights are bent and laminated. Upholstery is in
genuine leather. Linseed oil and shellac are used for
finishing. An assembly of ultra thin sheets of paper and linseed oil
is done between layers. As much as ten layers are applied,
depending on the desired finish. |
