For a successful watching, choose an activity during which you will be accompanied by an experienced guide. He will be able to inform you about the black bear behaviour, which you can observe on the other side of the valley, about 40 metres (130 feet) away. Our success rate is 96%! You are then almost certain to see black bears during your activity, but keep in mind that bears are wild animals and that they are free to come and go whenever they want.
After a 10-minute bus ride and a 2-minute walk, you can sit down on the benches of the covered observation post. Your bilingual guide will then talk about black bears, which you will be able to observe from the other side of the valley.
Recommendations for a pleasant bear watching activity
In order to spend a pleasant evening in the company of black bears, here are some recommendations that we suggest you follow:
- The departure is always 2 hours before sunset. It then changes during the summer depending on the hours of sunshine during the day.
- It is preferable that you make a reservation, because we have a maximum of places available each day. It would be unfortunate that you would have to leave without seeing any black bears.
- Photo and video cameras are allowed.
- It is recommended to wear warmer clothes, socks and walking, closed-toe shoes with flat heels.
- Bug-repellent is essential, especially in the summer. It is better to buy your bug-repellent in Québec, since the products available here are adapted to our environment.
- It is forbidden to bring food with you in the forest, so make sure you eat before you leave.
Have a great observation!
