Tempting restaurants to spoil yourself! « by Jacques Bélanger »

The particular feeling of hunger. It creeps into you and gives you a real appetite until you find a way to appease it. However, it could just strike you without a warning. Whatever the kind of hunger that is gnawing you, it could be satisfied in many ways. As you read these few lines, you will see that good opportunities makes… the good thief!

The noon sun is shining down on the city. It is hot and we are hungry and thirsty. Our stroll under this brilliant sun makes us looking for an appeasing shade. With this aim in view, the terrace of Restaurant Bistro Sous le Fort proves to be cool and busy. Moreover, conviviality prevails in the place, which makes us want to linger. As for the set menu, it looks at all good. I choose delicious and delicate calves' sweetbreads. My companion has a liking to taste chicken with camembert. The place serves wines by the glass and cider. For those who want to eat lightly, pizzas and sandwiches are still perfect selections, all washed down with a chilled beer!

I really enjoy renewing the pleasure of savouring new dishes. However, my acquaintances prefer to bank on familiar places. I admit that, from now and then, I appreciate to end up somewhere with them. Faithful to our tradition, we walked through the Trattoria Sant'Angelo door. As it wont to please its clientele, the restaurant suggests thick pastas, delicious veal escalopes, as well as popular woodstove baked pizzas. Musical entertainment on weekend to accompany your meal.

As a true city dweller, I confess that I sometimes like to find a bit of countryside within the city. It is into this country style that Le Lapin Sauté welcome its clientele, a restaurant which goes well with every season. In summer, the terrace is tempted and cosy, punctuated with excited buzz of conversation. Tables inside conjures up with homey country inn style. À la carte: a picnic for two is well appreciated when it is hot and, if it is cool, gratin Savoyard or onion soup "au gratin". Throughout the year, rabbit comes in many different dishes: two mustards sauce, apple and calvados sauce, and why not as a delicious forcemeat in cannelloni.

For over twenty years, blending classic dishes with new brainwaves is a challenge that Cochon Dingue owners have brilliantly taken up. Within the warm and friendly atmosphere particular to bistros and a relaxed clientele, we soon get ourselves comfortable. On the menu, we have the usual steak and fries and sinful desserts from which the place made its reputation. As for the mussels, they still delight shell-fish lovers. About new dishes, people have to discover them on the spot since the cook has a sharp renewal sense, combined with a distinctive savoir-faire. If you go once, you will return!

In the middle of autumn, the weather is being cooler and makes people look for cosy welcoming places. Actually, Bistrot Pape Georges perfectly comes to this expectation. Walls are made of stone and a soft lightning provides private conversations. Wine is the prince of the place, as well as cheese and savoury cold cuts. Those who have a good appetite wouldn't resist to the "Festin des petits papes" including ten different kind of cheeses. You feel like spoiling yourself? " A Holy See plate for the little couple on the back dining room! ".

All areas hold a population which is in the habit of doing particular things. These people select places where they go for a coffee or something to eat. Le Casse-Cou is the perfect place to meet people who lives in Quartier Petit Champlain. They are particularly fond of Casse-Cou open-faced sandwich, coffee and a distinctive carrot cake which, as it seems, is worth the trouble on his own. Of course, you don't have to belong to the local people to enter in Casse-Cou's place. Regular customers like to see new faces, just to discuss about anything.

Hunger is not every day so insistent. We have time then to cook at home. Fortunately, you are in Quartier Petit-Champlain ! You don't need to think twice about it! At Petit Cochon Dingue, you will find the best salad to serve with your meal, just as croissants and muffins for the following day. To turn your supper into an unforgettable feast, let please yourself with a dessert. You may even take two of them! And if pastries smell good to you and give you an appetite, do stop just long enough to sit at a table and enjoy one of them on the spot ! A piece of cheese pie to eat on your way back home?

Satisfied, we continue our leisurely stroll along pleasant streets in Quartier Petit Champlain. Feeling a bit guilty? We don't worry a lot ! We erred by eating heavenly meals, which, we must admit, contributes towards soothing the fault by far…
