Let yourself be charmed by the beauty of the Îles de la Madeleine! Its long beaches along its carved cliffs, its everfresh seefood and the more than warm welcome of its inhabitants will surely delight you. Hope to see you soon!
You can find the Magdalen Islands’ airport and a mussel breeding industry on the Île-du-Havre-aux-Maisons. This island is considered as one of the most beautiful islands of the archipelago and kept its country-style look with its scattered houses and its winding roads. On this island, the sand dune covers a great surface since you can find the Dune du Sud on one side and the Dune du Nord on another. Visit the Havre-aux-Maisons interpretation center to get a general idea of the history of the inhabitants. Just behind that interpretation center, you will see the “Île aux Cochons” (Its real name is Île Paquet). This island is the best place to observe a multitude of birds like terns, seagulls and herons. If you want to see some beautiful houses with a traditional architecture, you can take the panoramic road of Pointe-Basse by bike or by car. On the chemin de la Pointe-Basse, stop at the Fromagerie du Pied-de-Vent to taste and buy the good cheese from the Islands. A little bit farther, visit the Économusée du hareng fumé, Le Fumoir d’Antan which will make you live the smoking of herring, an activity that was very important for the Islands’ economy before. Then, take the chemin des Échouerie and make a stop to look at the Cap Alright lighthouse. The organization Attention FragÎles also organises visits to the peat bog which goes from Détroit Bridge to the airport. Finally, the Dune-du-Sud rest area gives access to a nice serviced beach where the sea is calm and warm.
